The brown-lipped sea krait is a common and widely distributed amphibious sea snake found across coral reef habitats of the tropical Indo-Pacific. It is closely related to other Laticauda kraits and shares their habit of moving between sea and land.

It carries potent venom used to hunt eels, but bites on humans are rare, as the species is generally calm and non-aggressive.
