Half-striped Wolf Snake

The Half-striped Wolf Snake is a small nocturnal colubrid found in parts of East and Southeast Asia, named for its distinctive banding pattern that is bold near the head but becomes incomplete or fades toward the tail.

As with other wolf snakes, it is entirely non-venomous and not dangerous to humans, primarily notable for its role as a nocturnal predator of small reptiles.

Inhabits forests, forest edges, and mountainous terrain across parts of East and Southeast Asia, including southern China and neighboring regions. It shelters under rocks, logs, and leaf litter.

Nocturnal and secretive, becoming active after dark to hunt. Generally non-aggressive, though it may bite defensively if handled, without medical consequence.

Feeds mainly on lizards, particularly skinks and geckos. Reproduction is oviparous, with small clutches of eggs laid in concealed, moist locations.
