Speckled Green Snake

The Speckled Green Snake is another member of the diverse African bush snake genus Philothamnus, notable for the fine dark flecking scattered across its otherwise green dorsal surface. It occupies forest and savanna woodland habitats across parts of East and southern Africa.

As with related species, it is entirely non-venomous and harmless to people, serving as a minor predator of small vertebrates in its habitat.

Diurnal and arboreal, moving actively through shrubs in search of prey. Generally docile and quick to flee rather than defend itself aggressively.

Primarily preys on frogs and small lizards. Reproduction is oviparous, with small clutches typical of the genus laid in concealed, humid locations.
